Commemorative Banknote on the Auspicious Occasion of His Majesty the King's

The uncut banknute sheet comprise 1-Baht, 5-Baht and 10-Baht decominations. The banknote paper, incorporated with mould-made three-dimensional multi-tone waternark, depicts the constitution placed on traditional-style gilded tray in yellow circle, and the metallic security thrcad containing translucent micro-characters "80 th Birthday Anniversary" in Thai characters, clcarly visible when holding the banknote against the light. blue, the signatures of the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Bank of Thailand printed with special black ink lurn into lunineseing yollowish-green and the Thai numeral " ๘๐" printed with invisible ink over the watermark turn into Iuminescing yellow, The security thread embedded in the paper also turns into luminescing yellow.

Each banknote is printed with Thai number and ao;habetical code prcfix "๙ธ" to represent His majesty. The Arabic number and Roman alphabetical code prefix "9K" followed by Thai or Arabic serial numbers 0000004-999999, and "9R" followed by Thai or Arabic serial numbcrs 0000001-5000000.

The main element on the from of each denornination is the portrait of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Other elcments are the Royal Garuda Emblem and the Airapote elephant. Aceompanying drawing of each denomination is the portrail of Their Majestics the King and Queen granting an audience to various groups of people who paid tribute to His Majesty on the occasion of his coronation in 1950 at the Sutthaisawan Prasat Hall, the portralt of His Majesty in a royal procession by land, marking his 3 th Cycle Birthday Anniversary in 1963, and the portrait of His Majcsty granting an audience to various groups of people who paid tribute to His Majesty on the Auspicious Occasion of the Sixtieth Anniversary Celcbrations of His Majesty's Accession to the Thrune in 2006 at the Ananda Samakhom Throne Hall.

The elements on the back of 1-Baht deomination are the portraits of His Majesty's childhood, the portrait of Their Majesties the King Rama 8 and King Rama 9 on their return to Thailand in 1945, the portrait of His Majesty during his study in Switzerland, the Royal Emblem in Commemoration of the Celebrations on the Ausplcious Occasion of His Majesty the King's 80 the Birthday Anniversary 5 the December 2007, the Royal Garuda Emblem, and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and the Grand Palace, and the Villa Vadhana in Swizerland.

The elements on the back of 5-Baht denomination are the portraif of Their Majesties on royal wedding day, the portrait of His Majesty in the coronation, and the wrdination, the portrait of the Royal Family, the portrait of Their Majesties during their royal visit to foreign countries, the portrait of His Majesty in the Investiture of H.R.H. Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, the portrait of Their Majesties performing royal activities, the picture of a Royal Rainmaking Project's planc, and the portraits of His Majesty playing the Saxophone and painting.

The elements on the back of 10-Baht denomination are the portrait of His Majesty in the Invesliture of H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the portrait of His Majesty with H.R.H. the Princess Mother, the portrait of Their Majestics performing royal activities, the picture of the Pak Basin Development Project in Nakhon Si Thammarat, and the Chaipattana Acrator, and the portrait of His Majesty granting an audiencc to various groups of people who paid tribute to His Majesty on the Auspicious Occasion of the Sixtieth Anniversary Celebrations of His Majesty's Accession to the Throne.

The festival is carried out to re-enact an old belief that the ghosts came out of the forest to bid farewell to Prince Vessandara, a reincarnation of Lord Buddha, and his wife on his return to the city. During the celebration, participants wear colorful masks, dress in a costume made of many pieces of fabric sewn together and hold wooden swords in a colorful parade.

"Chiang Mai" is a land of abundant beauty in nature, a way of life and culture that is reflected through simple things such as handicrafts made in some villages. This includes Ban Bo Sang, which is located in San Kamphaeng district. The village is famous for its distinctively created mulberry paper umbrellas. Bo Sang Umbrella Fair, whereby all villages' streets are adorned by vibrant colored umbrellas, is held on an annual basis.

Thai culture and its way of life practiced in each region differs according to the beliefs and teachings which have been learnt, created, accumulated and transferred from generation to generation.  Changes, however, have been made to establish the Thai ways of life which are best fit into the context of the social environment, culture and geographical setting.  The rationale behind the "Thai ways of life" therefore shows both the origin and the present being of Thainess, which in turn reflects the wisdom, prosperity, virtue and generosity of the Thai people.

On the occasion of the New Year 2009 (ago), the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), as an organization promoting tourism in terms of social awareness, proudly presents watercolor paintings which depict Thai culture and ways of life captured in different scenes from different regions.  The paintings have been spectacularly drawn by Thammavit Suwannapruek, an artist who never lets physical limitations win over his passion for travel.  We hope that the inspirations arising from these amazingly and delicately  painted pictures will become our valued presents that bring you pride, happiness and unity in the years to come.
